Raven's Crag, Dark Slab & Fruity Crag 6th July 2012

Still on a high from our previous day on Beinn Eighe we decided to head a little further north and spend the afternoon at Raven's Crag.

Taking the A896 from the Torridon campsite (905 558) to Kinlochewe (029 619), turn left onto the A832 and continue on this road until you reach the turn off for Badachro (780 736) B8056. Turn left again and after a short distance park just beyond the Shieldaig Lodge Hotel (806 725).

Walk back along the road to 807 724 and follow the 4x4 track in a southwesterly direction. Keep to the main track and Raven's Crag will come into view on the right (797 712). At a gentle pace the walk is only around 45 minutes.

When you first see the crags, you might think to yourself that they are overgrown and gardening may be required. Don't be fooled. The climbing is excellent and the rock sound. Friction is great and it is holds a plenty!

Due to the high winds we left Raven's Crag main face alone, climbed the Dark Slabs and later in the day moved onto Fruity Crag (794 714). Both crags were excellent fun.

I would highly recommend to any one that has not visited these crags to go along and check them out. The views are spectacular, the climbing's good and it does make you feel as if you are somewhere really remote.

Time was ticking by, we soon realised it was time to pack up and head back to the car. Rather than return to Torridon, we decided to head a little further north to Gruinard Bay (953 899) and spend the night there.

We got there just in time to witness a stunning sunset before turning in for the night.
