Sgurr a' Chaorachain & Sand Bay 3rd July 2012

We left Glasgow midday Monday 2nd July and headed northwest to Applecross (712 444) a small picturesque village on the northwest coast of Scotland, over looking a beautiful bay with spectacular views over the Inner Sound to the Isle of Skye.

It was a relief to arrive at the Applecross Campsite (712 444), the drive was almost six hours. The tent was quickly pitched and we soon settled down to make plans for the following day.

After an unsettled night we decided to have an easy day and headed to Bealach na Ba view point (774 425), the views towards Skye were amazing. We then walked Sgurr a Chaorcachin (796 417), probably the easiest hill walk in Scotland.

Start at the view point at Bealach na Ba, follow the 4x4 track to the telephone mast (785 424) and then follow the broad ridge south at first and then east to the true summit. A fantastic short walk taking around 3hrs including the return to the Bealach na Ba viewpoint at a very gentle pace.

Following lunch at the campsite we then headed north from Applecross to Sand Bay (683 487) to go bouldering. The bouldering is located right next to the north car park (683 493) and clearly visible. A great spot, it would be ideal in bad weather conditions. Although the bouldering is limited it is good fun. Warm up on the Orange Wall before tackling The Roof.
