Seana Mheallan West 9th July 2012

The rain that started on Saturday night continued into late Sunday morning. We packed up thoroughly soaked and headed back south to Torridon.

By the time we arrived back in Torridon we had just enough time to pitch the tent again before the rain came back on. After hot showers at the campsite we called in at the Torridon Youth Hostel and after a short chat with the warden we were allowed to use the washing machine and tumble dryers.

By late evening the skies cleared and within an hour you wouldn't of even known it had been raining heavily for almost 24 hrs. Supper was on, the plan for the following day made, it was time to turn in early again.

Morning brought clear skies, warm sunshine and with it a relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast was on, climbing equipment sorted. All that was left to do was eat and enjoy the morning sunshine. It was also good to be joined again by our friend Iain, who had driven up that morning.

After breakfast we were off. Today's crag was to be Seana Mheallan West (921 547). This crag can be reached in just over an hours walk from the Torridon campsite (905 558), walk west along the A896 to a point in the road at 921 557. Cross the river and follow a faint track up the hillside to Seana Mheallan (925 553) and then contour around the hillside to Seana Mheallan West. It is quite a steep slog up the hillside, with a little scrambling.

Seana Mheallan West is a Torridon sandstone crag, the sun hits the crag around midday. It has a relaxed atmosphere to it, with great climbing and a fantastic outlook over Loch Torridon.

The climbs are reasonably well protected, belays are sparse but good once located. The easiest way to descend back to the base is by abseil. There is an in situ abseil point roughly in the centre of the crag.

During the course of the day we managed most of the climbs in The Prow area and Pink Walls area. It was a great day with lots achieved.

Time yet again was ticking by, time to pack up and return to the campsite for another very late supper and sleep.
